Abodia

The ABODIA installation reawakens a relic: an old cabinet of slides. Its contents – the slides – are revealed and presented. Days, places and people from long ago appear as if by magic, inviting the audience to a commemorative journey through time. The smaller motifs set themselves in motion and join to form ever-greater images. Eventually, the light dims and darkens inside the cabinet – but still the pictures miraculously remain. Inside and outside, illumination and enlightenment switch places. Analogue and digital means of producing images overlap, morph, mix until the images finally collapse in on themselves, the memories terminated. Swoosh Lieu deal with the complexities of a ready-made object and bring it to life with the help of light, video and sound.
